NCAAF Odds Explained

A Point Spread is the number of points by which the oddsmakers predict the favored team will beat the underdog. The main purpose of the point spread is to create more equal betting action on both sides of a game. The favorite is indicated by a minus sign (e.g. -3.5) while the underdog is indicated by a plus sign (e.g. +3.5).  When betting the point spread you have to cover the spread to win your bet so if you bet a team -3.5 they would have to win by 4 or more points.

A Money Line is a wager on which team will win the game straight up with no point spreads involved. Even though there is no spread involved there is a set price provided by oddsmakers for each team. An example would be Team A -130 and this means you need to risk $130 for every $100 you want to win. An example of betting an underdog moneyline would be Team B +130 and this means you risk $100 to win $130.

The Over/Under is a fairly popular bet in college football, this type of bet is also commonly referred to as a total. The over/under is a predicted number of points scored by both teams combined in a given game provided by the oddsmaker. To bet the over/under you would simply bet on if you think the number of points scored will be more or less than the provided total. An example of a total wager would be Team ABC is playing Team XYZ and the total is set at 55 points so if you like the over there has to be more than 55 total points scored in the game for you to win your bet.
